Slow Start and New Beginnings

Slow Start and New Beginnings

After losing loved ones and my motivation and energy, Sloth Stitch is ready to re-emerge a year after launch. Read on to find out my cross stitch plans for 2022.

Welcome to my modern cross stitch website and my very first blog post (which only took a year to make it live on the website!). I launched Sloth Stitch in April 2021 after lots of planning and filled with loads of ideas and then life got in the way of my dreams and motivation, leading to a very slow first year for the business.

In June 2021, I lost my dad after a 3 year battle with bowel and liver cancer and in the same 6 months lost my nana and my cousin. To say this knocked me about a bit is an understatement, and spending time with my family and loved ones obviously took priority over everything else.

At the same time, my husband and I were making the difficult decision to sell our family home in the UK (after moving here mid-2018) and purchase a house here in NZ in sunny Hawke’s Bay. Anyone who has bought a house, especially during a global pandemic and economic crisis will know how stressful that can be! My health took a huge hit in January, but I am excited to say that we are now settled in our new home (well, maybe I haven’t unpacked every single box yet!) and ready to launch ourselves into this next chapter of our lives.

For me, this means getting on with all the ideas and plans I have for Sloth Stitch to bring bright and colourful contemporary cross stitch into the NZ market.

I am grateful to everyone who has purchased kits and patterns from Sloth Stitch over this first difficult year. Knowing that people are enjoying all the great patterns gives me the motivation to keep going.

So what does this mean for the business? Well, not giving too much away (or promising more than I can deliver as one person!), here are a few things I have planned:

- Lots more cross stitch kits coming from all over the world
- Some new modern, simple NZ patterns
- Subscription boxes or special boxes which contain patterns, supplies, stitching accessories and other goodies based around different themes - starting with a Christmas in July box to kickstart your Christmas stitching nice and early (to save you from that manic stitching on the 23rd December!)
- Etsy-curated content - each fortnight (ish) I will share my latest Etsy cross stitch discoveries

That’s probably enough to promise for now! I will also be sending regular newsletters and posting what I’m stitching on my Facebook page.

I’d love to share my stitching journey with you and hear all about yours. If you have any suggestions, things you’d like to see, or projects you’d like to share, please get in touch on Facebook or via my contact page.

Happy Stitching!
